HYDERABAD: After specific directions of Abdul Rasheed Shaikh, Director-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Islamabad to adopt zero tolerance policy against smugglers and identify/locate dumping sites and godowns of contraband goods, Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, Director, Customs Intelligence & Investigation directed all anti-smuggling squads to use all available resources against smuggling and anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt with iron hand and as per law.
After these directions, the Anti-Smuggling Organization expedited its efforts to thwart any attempt of smuggling. ASO team under the supervision of Jamshed Ai Talpur, Additional Director and Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, Deputy Director was instructed for mounted active surveillance on dumpling places of contraband goods.
Consequently, pursing a reliable source that huge quantity of smuggled foreign origin cigarettes was dumped in a godown, namely, Goth Kando Khan Mahar, district Umerkot, the team of ASO with the assistance of Sindh Police, Umerkot raided the said godown on 22.10.2020 at around 3 pm and recovered huge quantity of smuggled foreign cigarettes. The above team took over the possession of the recovered contraband goods and shifted these to the premises of the Directorate.
The process of thorough/detailed examination of the recovered contraband goods was carried out, which resulted into recovery of 200 cartons of foreign origin smuggled cigarettes (assorted brands) containing 10,000 dandas. The current market value of the recovered smuggled contraband goods is approximately Rs11.72 million. The Director appreciated the efforts of ASO wing of the Directorate who are working tirelessly day and night to curb smuggling in the region.
