HYDERABAD: Following the directives of Abdul Rasheed Sheikh, Director-General, Directorate-General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation to curb the menace of smuggling, Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Dr. Sadiqullah Khan, instructed the staff of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) wings headed by Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, Deputy Director to keep extra vigilance in particular against the organized smuggling of goods.
The In-charge, Special Investigation (SIU) was already instructed to conduct active surveillance on the movements of suspected foreign origin goods. Consequently, pursuing a source report that consignments of smuggled goods would be transported from Faisalabad to Karachi via National Highway, the team of SIU of the Directorate successfully executed an operation the intervening night of 7th/8th September 2020 and apprehended a Mazda Mini truck bearing registration no: JZ-1374 from National Highway near Qazi Ahmed district Shaheed Benazirabad. Cursory checking revealed that the truck was loaded with cartons of foreign origin readymade garments.
During uploading of these cartons, another six cartons of foreign origin expensive mobile phones were also found. The team of SIU took over the possession of the truck loaded with smuggled goods into custody and brought to the office of the Directorate. The driver has been arrested and FIR has also been lodged.
Detailed examination of the recovered foreign origin goods has resulted into recovery of 550 pieces of foreign origin mobile phones (assorted brands and models) and 2320 pieces of foreign origin readymade T-shirts and child hoodies packed in 129 cartons weighing 1104-kgs along with one unit Mazda mini truck worth Rs23.976 million (approx).
