DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) DG Khan Division seized foreign origin cigarettes and others items worth Rs61.231 million from a 40 feet container near Ramzan Chowk district Rajanpur during an action.
Sources told Customs Today Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmed deployed Inspector Muhammad Khalid Gujjar to check vehicles in order to curb smuggling under anti-smuggling campaign.
The inspector checked many vehicles near Ramzan Chowk with his team. The team intercepted a 40 feet container loaded with foreign origin smuggled tyres worth Rs6.004 million.
The team asked driver about booking documents of recovered items but he could not produce the same. Therefore the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws but released the driver after proper interrogation. The customs also served notice on accused person and referred the case to adjudication for further legal action.
Talking to Customs Today the ASO Collector Muhammad Fayyaz Anwar said that noose was being tightened around the smugglers neck following the directions of the Cheif collector Zeba Hai. He further said that Assistance of team ASO Sadiqabad during transportation and unloading of said container is well appreciated.
He said that the smuggled items will not be allowed to be sold in the market adding that stringent legal action will be taken against those traders shopkeepers who found involved in selling smuggled items.
The ASO officials said that the seized items will be auctioned if the adjudication decided the case in favor of the customs department.
