WASHINGTON: Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Model Customs Collectorate, Preventive on Friday seized around 8300 bottles of imported liquor worth millions of rupees from Hawksbay road.
According to official sources, the action was taken on a tip-off that some unscrupulous persons have smuggled huge quantity of liquor from UAE via Balochistan sea belt and were planning to transport it to Karachi and other parts of the country.
Reacting on the information, a team of DEC was deployed at the entry point of Karachi – Hub from Balochistan. The staff of DEC after strict surveillance intercepted two trucks coming from Balochistan at Hawksbay road in the wee hours of Friday.
The trucks drivers, what the customs officials claimed, managed to flee under the cover of darkness while around 8300 bottles of liquor worth millions of rupees were recovered. This was the first seizure of smuggled liquor in 2016. Consequent upon the recovery, a legal proceeding has been initiated and further investigation is in progress.
