KARACHI: The Customs Court directed the investigation officer to complete investigation and submit a progress report against the owner of M/s Shaheen Oil Mills, who was nominated in the first information report (FIR) for smuggling of huge quantities of contraband goods.
On February 20 2021, during the hearing, investigation officer submitted that on a secret information, officials of the Anti-Smuggling Organization raided at said factory and during search found weighing 775 kgs foreign original betel nuts crushed containing 551 valuing of Rs1,65,30,000. Foreign origin cigarettes of different brands containing 93 cartons each carton contains 50 sticks total 4650 dandas/ sticks valuing Rs37, 20,000. Indian origin Gutkha of different brands containing 140 pp bags/ katas each contains 50 pouches total 6, 65, 000 sachets valuing of Rs42,00,000 and Indian origin cutch slab containing 19 kattas weighing 950 kg valuing of Rs5,70,000.
He further submitted that no one came forward to claim the ownership nor produced import documents of the detained goods during the detention period, in view of above, it is established that the detained goods are smuggled one and has been brought into the country through an unauthorized route without payment of duty and taxes leviable thereon.
Investigation officer informs the court that after the formalities, case was registered owner of the said company for violation of under section 2 (s) & 16 of the customs act, 1969 read with section 3(i) of import & export act, 1950 punishable under clauses (8) & (89) of section 156 (i) of customs act, 1969 and further read with SRO 5666(I)/2005 dated June 06, 2005.
