KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Customs Preventive to complete investigation against Dawood, owner of M/s Pak International Goods Transportation, Rizwan, manager of M/s Pak International Goods Transportation and others who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts, foreign cigarettes etc.
On 27 January 2020, investigation officer produced the first information report against the above mentioned suspects and others and informed the court that on information, customs officials intercepted a Nissan trailer bearing registration no: TE-090 and during the search found 63,000 pouches Indian origin Safina Gutka worth Rs1,260,000, 300 dandas Haomao brand foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs300,000, 300 dandas Hi-Light brand foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs800,000, 100 kilogram betel nuts worth Rs2,960,000, 10 tyres of assorted size and brands worth Rs74,000, 13 cartons of assorted fireworks and crackers worth Rs300,000 etc.
He further submitted investigation is under process against the above mentioned suspects and others financiers, abettors & others.
After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
