KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-smuggling organization (ASO) impounded 48,000 liters of smuggled diesel along with Hino tanker. The market value of seized diesel is Rs20 million, while during another operation the ASO squad seized betel nuts and container worth Rs28 million.
According to sources, Collector Saquif Saeed formed special anti-smuggling squads to foil smuggling attempts in the region. The ASO squad during patrolling intercepted Hino oil tanker near Mochko Choke Point.
The ASO squad asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding transportation of diesel. The driver of vehicle informed that the goods were taken from M/s Byco Refinery to be delivered at Daulatpur Bulk Depot, and presented delivery order issued by M/s Byco.
It is necessary to mention here that during the course of examination, the driver of the vehicle fled away. The ASO squad apprised M/s Byco Petroleum about the documents they confirmed the document to be fake. The diesel along with vehicle were seized and investigations are underway.
During another operation on credible information received by Collector Saquif Saeed ASO squad intercepted a Hindo truck and recovered huge quantity of betel nuts.
Both driver and cleaner of the vehicle identified as Muhammad Arshad and Ali Hamza told ASO staff that they were carrying a consignment of M/s Unilever Pakistan Food Limited from Lahore to Karachi.
They also produced Bilty documents of M/s New Waheed Cargo Transport Services along with packing list showing the consignment to be Knorr noodles.
The ASO staff searched the container and found huge quantity of betel nut. The goods along with trailer and container worth Rs28 million have been seized and investigations are underway.
