KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive busted huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts weighing 9205 kilograms and Indian origin gutka weighing 891 kilograms worth millions of rupees in a successful raid conducted at Super Highway.
According to the details, Deputy Collector Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Headquarters Muhammad Faisal constituted a team to beef up the security and surveillance at the entry and exit point of the city against the illegal activities of the smugglers.
The team of ASO checked several vehicles at the Super Highway and followed the procedure of customs to inquire regarding the legal documents and carried out the search.
During the search of a ten-wheeler truck bearing registration no: TKE-348, the team of ASO found a huge quantity of betel nuts as well as Indian origin gutka.
The recovered contraband items included 103 kilograms of assorted gunny bags of betel nuts weighing 9205 kilograms worth Rs2,558,990 and assorted Indian origin gutkha 4100 packets weighing 891 kilograms worth Rs6,682,500 which were hidden under crushed stones.
Anti-Smuggling Organization informed that the value of seized goods is Rs9,241,490/- and value of the seized truck is Rs5 million in the market. The case has been filed whereas one culprit was also apprehended from the spot.
