LAHORE: Custom Preventive staff deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore has impounded 40 ,000 dirham from a passenger who attempted to smuggle the amount to Dubai.
The sources said that the accused was held when he tried to smuggle the dirham hiding in a box of sweets.
It was reported that the accused person has been identified as Shahzad who is owner of Lahori Sweets was also held in a separate attempt to smuggle currency and arrested red handed.
It was added that the accused Shahzad declared that he was having with him legal amount of foreign currency but when on suspicion he was searched by the customs authorities they recovered 40000 UAE dirhams from his possession. The customs authorities seized the same in the presence of two witnesses.
It was added that the customs authorities, however, had not arrested the accused and let him go after impounding the illegal quantity of the dirhams. The sources said that that the customs authorities after registering a case have seized the currency.
On the other hand, another source said that the seizure of the currency has been conducted in line with the newly implemented policy to stop currency smuggling at any case.
The sources said that the Customs Preventive has recently evolved a strategy to curb the money laundering at any cost.
