KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Appraisement-East has issued assessment alerts in order to examine the consignments of zinc sulphate, commonly used in feed and fertilizer.
The sources informed Customs Today that some corrupt elements have been claiming exemption of sales tax under SRO 1007(I)/2005, which is extendable only to feed grade. However, some importers have cleared their consignments of zinc sulphate by taking advantage of the said SRO.
“Importers through Goods Declaration (GD) KAPE-HC-7843-22-07-2014 were evading Rs 2 million tax duty,” they added.
The Customs Collectorate has decided that all consignments of zinc Sulphate should be examined to confirm its grade.
The Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement-East has also directed the customs staff to initiate work on making contravention reports in such cases where mis-declaration is found.
It is important to mention here that Research and Development section of the Appraisement-East has started scrutinising the import data in accordance with the SRO 1007(I)/2005.
