KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) thwarted an attempt to smuggle electronic items in huge quantity.
According to the details, on the tip-off by higher authorities, Deputy Collector Customs Tauseef Ahmed Gorchani directed to beef up the surveillance and security over the information of smuggling of electronic items.
During the surveillance, the staff of the customs deputed at the international arrival of the Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) intercepted three passengers and requested to provide the travelling documents.
The luggage of all the three passengers was thoroughly checked, whereas conducting the physical checking, the staff of the customs recovered several cellular phones and smart watches from their pockets too.
The Customs officers informed Customs Today that the total recovered electronic item included 46 cellular phones of different brands including iPhones and Samsung phones as well as 9 smart watches of Apple brand and two laptops.
The passengers Salah Uddin, Siddique Sikandar and Muhammad Hussain reached Karachi from Dubai through Emirates Airline no EK-604. The value of the recovered electronic items is Rs 84 lac in the international market, informed the Customs officer.
The case against three culprits is being filed whereas all the recovered electronic items have been taken into the custody and further investigations are underway.
