KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive staff deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) International Departure apprehended three accused along with gold ornaments.
According to the details, on the tip-off by higher authorities, the team of customs boosted the surveillance during which three passengers along with two women were intercepted on suspicion.
The customs team inquired regarding the travel documents and conducted checking of the luggage during which 380 tola gold jewelry recovered from the passengers.
The customs team informed Customs Today that the recovered 380 tola gold jewelry is worth Rs31.17 million in the market. The passengers identified as Tufail Junani, Sana Tufail and Farida Bano, resident of Azizabad Karachi and they were going to Dubai and USA by flight no: EK-607 of Emirates Airlines.
Custom team further stated that the accused persons attempted to smuggle the recovered gold jewelry to Dubai against pecuniary gains. In an initial investigation it was revealed that gold in semi-finished form was being used to launder money/assets. These attempts were being expected keeping in view existing amnesty scheme and government’s strict and focused strategy on anti-money laundering activities.
The staff of Customs Preventive posted at International Departures was alerted accordingly which helped recovery of gold jewelry/ornaments in such a substantial quantity.
Three accused persons were arrested after lodging FIR against them to trace out real abettors and collaborators to bust the gang/cartel involved in these activities.
