ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation of Islamabad Customs has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 3.9 billion and arrested 184 accused while 1236 cases were registered against the smugglers during the fiscal year 2014-15.
According to a report issued by Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad for the year 2014-15, the Directorate has seized Rs 3.9 billion of smuggled goods in anti-smuggling drives and arrested 184 accused, 20 persons were convicted while 1236 cases were registered during fiscal year 2014-15.
Deputy Director headquarters Khaldunul Haq told Customs Today that during the course of anti-smuggling activities in outgoing financial year 2014-15 Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad has recovered and seized 6 million yards of foreign origin smuggled cloth having worth of Rs 218 million, smuggled tea having worth of Rs 52 million while 508 offending vehicles which were used for the smuggling activities having worth of Rs 880 million were also seized during the said year.
He added that Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad during FY 2014-15 has seized Rs 101 million of liquor including 16,760 bottles of whisky and 20,218 cans of beer, Rs 114 million of tyres, tubes, auto and spare parts were recovered and seized while Rs 270 million of smuggled diesel and mobile oil were also recovered and seized during the said year.
Moreover, Rs 282 million of electronic goods, Rs 77 million of smuggled foreign origin cigarette, Rs 5 million of greese, Rs 6 million of timber, Rs 243 million of toiletrier, Rs 23 million of foreign origin gutka, Rs 9 million medicines and Rs 5 million of carpets while the Directorate seized Rs 1.33 billion of other smuggled goods during the anti-smuggling drives in fiscal year 2014-15.
He further added that 323 non-duty paid vehicles worth of Rs 355 million were recovered and seized while during the said fiscal year 1236 cases were registered against the smugglers, 184 accused were arrested during operation and 20 persons were convicted, while investigations are still in process against other accused persons.
