ISLAMABAD: Director General (DG) Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Enforcement Dr. Arslan Subuktgeen said that the Customs Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Pakistan has seized huge quantity of fake copies of the publication “From MTV to Mecca” authored by Kristaine Backer.
According to details told by DG Arslan Subuktgeen, on complain of the author Kristaine Backer of UK, IPR Pakistan has seized huge quantity of fake publication and the department will destroy all these copies soon, adding that the author filed an enforcement application at Karachi office of the Directorate General of IPR Enforcement.
It was told that the fake publication was found to have printed in the UK and exported under fake credentials to Pakistan adding that these books were initially cleared for home-consumption but on pointation of the author all available unsold stock of the pirated books was retrieved from the local book stores and seized.
The DG IPR said that these pirated copies of “From MTV to Mecca” will now be destroyed as part of the forthcoming destruction ceremony scheduled for the last week of October 2019, adding that the confiscation of the pirated copies of the above book marked as first ever such action carried out by the Directorate General of IPR.
This action of IPR enforcement has earned words of appreciation for Pakistan Customs from the foreign author who expressed her confidence to get genuine copies of her book.
