HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 400 cartons of smuggled Rani Juice worth Rs 601,920 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 141,054 and 270 rolls of plastic sheet worth Rs 1.431 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 562,474 during two raids.
Deputy Director Azam Khan received information that foreign origin Rani Juices are being smuggled after which he constituted a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Hayat Khanzada, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Ahmed Hussain Junejo, sepoyes Muhammad Imran Ali, Ghiasuddin Shah , Alimuddin, Hanif Soomro and others.
The team intercepted a passenger vehicle going to Lahore from Karachi near Hyderabad Bypass and recovered 400 cartons of juice. When officials asked about the owner of the juices no one was turned up to claim the ownership. Therefore, the juices were confiscated under the customs laws, besides registering a case.
In another raid, the Hyderabad Customs Intelligence Field Investigation Unit (FIU) has confiscated 270 rolls of polythene sheet having weight 11,665 kilogramme worth 1.431 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 562,474.
It was informed that Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Azam Khan received tip off regarding the smuggling of plastic rolls on which he formed a team consisting of above-mentioned officers.
The team intercepted vehicle near Super Highway and recovered 270 rolls, which were being smuggled to Multan from Karachi. The officials confiscated the items after the owner failed to show the documents regarding legal import of the goods. A case has been registered against the owner of goods under customs laws.
