ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi region has seized smuggled goods worth Rs 396 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 138 million, arrested 23 accused and registered 104 cases from April 2014 to June 22, 2015 under supervision of DG Lutfullah Virk.
Deputy Director Headquarters, Khaldunul Haq told Customs Today that Customs Intelligence confiscated foreign origin cloth worth Rs 58.7 million involving duty/taxes of Rs 3.2 million, 12,647 kilogram of tea having worth of Rs 3.3 million involving Rs 372,000 duties.
Besides, customs impounded 36 offending vehicles worth Rs 40 million which were used for the smuggling activities.
He added that Directorate General Investigation and Intelligence Rawalpindi has also seized electronics valued at Rs 52million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 30 million, motor oil worth Rs 1.2 million involving Rs 44, 583 duty and taxes, while the directorate also held other miscellaneous smuggled goods Rs 173 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 44million by curbing various smuggling activities during the said period.
He further added that 35 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 62 million involving Rs 3.2 million of duty and taxes were also impounded by the intelligence.
He also informed that added that during April 14 to June 15, 104 cases were registered against the smugglers while 23 accused were arrested during operations.
