KARACHI. Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation customs, in its ongoing campaign against smuggling, has seized foreign origin smuggled goods including Iranian diesel worth Rs 12.5 million.
According to details, 45,000 liters smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol along with three tankers being used in the transportation of smuggled petroleum products were impounded near super Highway Toll Plaza with the active support and help of Pakistan Rangers Sindh. Value of the seized diesel and petrol along with three oil tankers is approximately Rs 8 million. The FIRs have been lodged against the alleged smugglers.
In another case, more than five tons foreign origin smuggled cumin seed (Zeera) dumped in a shade near Maripur Road Karachi was taken into custody. This was recovered on the basis of information that smuggled goods are being stored and dumped in various godowns and other places.
The Customs Intelligence also seized more than 300 bottles of foreign origin liquor and beer. FIR of the case has also been lodged in the Customs Court and the further investigation is underway.
In response to a query, Director Customs Intelligence, Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui, told that total value of the goods seized in these three operations is around Rs 10 million.
He further informed that anti-smuggling operations were conducted under the supervision of a team headed by Assistant Director Kaleem Ullah, including Superintendent Raffat Hussain, Deputy Superintendent, Muhammad Aslam, Intelligence Officer Akmal Hashmi, Munawwar Ali, Saif Hashmi, Qasim Alvi, Meraj Alvi and Pervaiz Zardari. Formal seizure report of all the smuggled goods is being sent to collector of Customs Adjudication.
He also told that Range Office Sukkur has seized smuggled Gutka, Black Pepper and one smuggled vehicle valuing Rs 2.5 million. Director concluded that operation against smuggled using available resources will continue with full source.
