ISLAMABAD: Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Customs showed outstanding performance against smugglers and tax evaders during month of July 2019.
Talking with Customs Today, Abdul Mueed Kanju, Deputy Director Headquarters Directorate General Customs I&I (Intelligence and Investigation) Islamabad, said that under direction of Muhammad Zahid Kokhar, Director General I&I, the anti smuggling activities throughout the country were geared up which resulted in several big seizure cases against smuggled stuff.
Mentioning main cases of various directorates working under the Director General I&I, he said that Regional office Peshawar intercepted 22.8 kilograms of hashish, 1.1 kg heroin powder and 1.2 kg opium valuing Rs 36 million on mid July, besides this Regional office Hyderabad successfully conducted an IBO (intelligence based operation) and raided different locations with the assistance of Sindh Rangers resulting into impounding of 15 NDP (non duty paid) smuggled vehicles valuing Rs 30 million while the Directorate seized 201252 litters of HSD valuing Rs 15 million.
Mueed added that during the month of July 2019 the ASO (anti smuggling organization) of the Directorate General Islamabad seized 151889 kgs of betel nuts valuing Rs 141 million, adding that DG I&I Zahid Kokhar has expressed his determination to further expand crackdown on smuggling, tax evasion and mis-declarations throughout the country.
