KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigations (I&I) has apprehended a huge quantity of contraband items worth millions of rupees.
According to the details, on a tip-off higher, a team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) raided near Jacobabad check post and seized 2,000kg of betel nuts concealed in the hidden places of a passenger bus.
Sources informed Customs Today that the higher authorities constituted a team after receiving authentic information regarding the smuggling of the contraband items, including betel nuts.
The team increased the checking of vehicles passing through entry and exit points of the cities in Sindh, the source also informed.
During the surveillance, the staff of the Pakistan Customs deputed near the check post of the Jacobabad intercepted a passenger bus but the driver of the vehicle tries to flee away. The staff chased the bus and forced it to stop. The customs staff checked the bus and recovered 2,000 kilogramme betel nuts, 350,000 packets of Indian Gutka as well as 80 kilogram high quality charas worth Rs 40 million.
The Customs authorities have taken the custody of the passenger bus as well the recovered contraband items whereas have lodged the case against the culprits to further start the investigations.
