LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Saturday impounded over Rs96 million smuggled goods, official sources said.
Sources told Customs Today that on receiving credible information about smuggling attempt, Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hassan Farid constituted an anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Deputy Director Amanat Khan for conducting raid on the smugglers in jurisdiction of Sheikupura.
During the raid anti-smuggling squad recovered 11950 kilograms of bake margarine of Iran origin, 272300 kilograms of foreign origin petroleum wax oil, and 32 metric tons of foreign origin Paraffin Wax.
Sources further said that total worth of detained goods is Rs96 million (approximately) while further investigations are still in progress till the filing of this report.
It is necessary to mention here that after resuming the charge of Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Asad Raza Rizvi directed all anti-smugglers squads to enhance patrolling to curb smuggling attempts in the region. He directed to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling and anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
