KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation detected tax evasion worth Rs246.77 million by M/s Pak Telecom Mobile Ltd Islamabad while the consignment was released against the BG.
Talking with Customs Today the sources of I&I said that in pursuance of specific information to the effect that M/s Pak Telecom Mobile Ltd (PTML) Islamabad has been involved in evasion of duty taxes on import and clearance of telecom equipment through mis-declaration of description, quantity and concealment of actual import value.
Sources said the Regional office Karachi of this Directorate General has intercepted their two consignments comprising 2×20 containers cleared vide Good Declaration (GD) No. KPPI-HC-63309 and KPPI-HC-63307 while similar consignment cleared vide GD No.KPPI-HC-61394 through Customs Collectorate Muhammad Bin Qasim Karachi was also intercepted in the course of above refereed enforcement activity.
The relevant copies of contract, a Bill of Quantity (BOQs) and price list procured from the importer in terms of section 26 of the Customs Act 1969 showing description (itemized detail), quantity and value revealed that manipulated invoices without itemized details, quantity and unit value were produced and relied upon and consignments were got cleared by mis-declaring the description, quantity and value against the actual description and quantity.
Moreover the invoice as well as GD did not reflect the declared value to be discounted value rather the element of purported 77% discount was concealed to avoid livable duty and taxes. The sources of I&I Karachi confirmed that case has been forwarded to Collector Adjudication Karachi for further action while consignments have been handed over to the M/s Pak Telecom Mobile Ltd Islamabad against the Bank Guarantee (BG) and pay order under powers of section 83-B of Customs Act 1969.
