RAWALPINDI: The Customs team deputed at New Islamabad International Airport foiled a bid to smuggle more than ten kilograms of drugs with the help of Airport Security Force (ASF) on Friday.
According to details, the accused was trying to travel to Manchester on an Emirates flight EK-613. He had concealed the heroin in one of the layers of his bag.
“Zahid is a resident of Gujrat and is now in the custody of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for further investigations,” said the ASF.
In March this year, mail and customs authorities in Rawalpindi foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of the synthetic psychoactive drug Ecstasy from the Netherlands worth Rs7 million. The drugs were believed to be destined for college and school going students in the federal capital. The drugs were caught by the International Mail office in Rawalpindi with the assistance of the Customs.
Officials of the international mail office had termed the bust as the biggest recovery in their history.
