ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Islamabad has foiled a bid to smuggle smart phones worth millions of rupees to Pakistan through two flights from Gulf countries at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad Airport.
As per details, Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation Lutfullah Virk got information that smart phones worth millions of rupees are being smuggled to Pakistan through two different flights from Qatar and Dubai. On the directives of DG Customs Lutfullah Virk, a special team — under the supervision of two senior members of Directorate, Additional Director Muhammad Saleem and Asif Argan — was constituted to keep an eye on flights EK114 and QR630 from Dubai and Qatar, respectively.
Sources further told that on checking and investigation two unidentified begs were found in the lounge, and no one accepted the possession of those begs. On search total 1,119 smart phones worth Rs 25 to 30 million were found in those begs.
Customs Investigation and Intelligence has taken the begs into its custody and registered a case against the unidentified smugglers for further proceedings
