KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive submitted first information report (FIR) against absconding suspects namely Muhammad Amin, Khan Nawab, Malik Abdul Ghani and Hussain who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid crushed betel nuts and sweet supari.
On 1p March 2020, investigation officer submitted that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted an ISUSU truck/ trawler bearing registration number: TLF-045 loaded container no: AUCU-501561-2 and during the search, c found 964 PP bags of crushed 33,725 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs26,980,000. 1012 PP bags containing crushed betel nuts 35,425 kg worth Rs28,340,000, 199 cartons containing assorted brand special sweet supari total weighing 6765 kg worth Rs5,412,000. 3116 PP bags containing sweet supari total weighing 109,060 kg worth Rs87,248,000, 70 bottles of unhygienic sweetener in liquid form worth Rs1,40,000.
He further submitted that after the formalities, customs officials lodged first information report against the above mentioned suspects and other (financer/ abettors/ associate yet to be ascertained during the investigating).
After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to arrest and produce above mentioned suspects and others on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered by Preventive Officer, Customs House Karachi for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
