Customs Court sends suspects to jail in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Fazal Bacha son of Shah Muhammad and Muhammad Javed son of Bacha Khan to Central Jail on judicial remand in a case of attempting to smuggle 10090 liters high speed diesel.

On 9 December 2019, investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, officials of the customs department intercepted a Hino water tanker bearing registration number: TTB-669 arrived from Hub, Balochistan. He argued that driver was asked about the contents of the tanker to which occupant driver responded that he is carrying water in the tanker. Cursory search of the aforesaid water tanker was carried out, apparently it was seemed water tanker containing a chamber filled with water. However, on spot checking, it was observed that there were hidden tanks inside the tanker under the water. He further informed the court that during the search, customs officials found high speed diesel which was smuggled from Balochistan to Karachi.

He submits that prosecution needs further investigation and therefore, court may send them back to customs department for further investigation. According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
