KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Nakhuda Jamshad son of Abdul Qadir on physical remand who is booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 7000 liters Iranian origin high speed diesel through launch.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, high officials of Marine Wing Pakistan Cost Guards Kimari intercepted a launch (SE Milad Mubarak) bearing registration number B-19019 engine number 7FB46393 and during the search of said launch, recovered 7000 liters Iranian High Speed Diesel, which was smuggling through this launch.
Investigation officer further submitted that during the investigation, arrested suspect informed that he was smuggling the said high speed diesel, investigation officer seeks his physical remand and argued that prosecution needs to collect further evidences and will have to arrest co-suspects, therefore, court may send him back on physical remand.
After the hearing, court sent him back to Marine Wing Pakistan Cost guards for further investigation and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered at the office of Anti-Smuggling Organization HQ NMB Wharf, Karachi for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
