KARACHI: The Customs Court allowed investigation from a suspect namely Shahazda Aman son of Saleem in jail, who is nominated in first information report (FIR) for smuggling of liquor through mis-declaration under the garb of diplomatic cargo.
On 28 November 2020, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Appraisement & Facilitation, Port Muhammad Bin Qasim submitted first information report against Abdul Qadir of M/s World Ocean Centre, Shahzada Aman of Saleem Sons Freight Services and others.
Investigation officer submitted that during the investigation, it is established that 6336 liter assorted whisky were brought in which were neither declared nor mentioned in the exemption certificate issued by ministry of foreign affairs. Even otherwise, the quantity found is much higher than the quantity declared in the goods declaration and mentioned in the exemption certificate.
He further submitted that it is pertinent to mention that the embassy of UAE has categorically disowned the consignment vide letter dated Nov 13, 2020, the consignment being liable to confiscate was seized under section 168 of the customs act, 1969 and a notice under section 171 has been served upon the custodian.
Investigation officer pleaded the court that Shahzada Aman had been arrested in another liquor smuggling case and prosecution needs investigation from him in the current FIR, therefore, the court may allow prosecution for investigation to the arrested suspect.
After the hearing, the court allowed him to investigate the already arrested suspect, and the court also directed the investigation officer to complete investigation and submit progress report on the next date of hearing.
