KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization to arrest and submit charge sheet against suspects namely Mirza Aurangzaib Baig son of Younus Baig and Muhammad Jawad son of Chand Hussain, who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid tobacco worth Rs6,600,000.
On 5 March 2020, investigation officer of Customs Preventive submitted first information report (FIR) and informed that information was received that smuggled foreign origin tobacco is dumped in a godown situated at Gulshan-e-Shamim, Block 8 House No R/197 F.B Area Karachi and likely to be removed from that premises shortly.
He further informed that on pursuant to the said information a customs team was constituted to foil the attempt on urgent basis, who reached there but no one came near godown in presence of customs team.
He further said during the search, customs team found 120 PP bags each containing 22 kg total 2640 kg valuing of Rs6,600,000 of tobacco and after the formalities, goods were seized by the customs officials.
He stated that prosecution is trying its best for their arrest and they would be produced before the court when arrested, after the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to arrest them and complete investigation and filed charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of under section 2(3, 7) 2(9), 2(14) (a) 3,6,7,8 (1) (a) & (d) 8A, 22(1) and 73 of the sales tax act, 1990 punishable under section 33 (3) (5) (8) (11c) (13) (16) (18) ibid.
