Customs Court seeks charge sheet of HSD Oil smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Muhammad Bakhtiar son of Muhammad Maqbool to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand and directed investigation officer to submit charge sheet on next date of hearing in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 60,000 liters foreign origin (Iranian) high speed diesel worth Rs6,084,000.

On 12 August  2020, investigation officer of Directorate General, Intelligence & Investigation-Customs produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and stated that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration TLX-108 loaded with smuggled HSD oil.

He stated that during the checking, customs officials recovered 60,000 liters high speed diesel (foreign Iranian) worth Rs6,084,000 and during the search, above mentioned driver was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he fails to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, goods along with vehicle were seized and driver was taken into custody.

He argues that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of other culprits, who may involve in this crime, therefore, court may send him back to customs custody, however, after the hearing, court sent him to jail and also directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against culprits in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 32 (A) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 of the customs act, 1969.
