KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Directorate General of Intelligence & investigation-FBR to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against directors/ proprietors/ partners of M/s Jutt Lights and others who are nominated in a case of evasion of duty and taxes by mis-declaring of description and quantity of actual goods imported.
On October 31, 2019, investigation officer submitted that on an actionable information, containers were examined by the customs officials and found wall/ mirror light fittings, LED candle light, LED driver power/ spare part, LED candle bulb 3W, 5W, handing light, galvanized iron & steel screw of assorted sizes, wall clock, part of glass for chandelier, LED tube light 12W and others goods.
He further submits that during the investigation, it is established beyond any shadow of doubt that M/s Jutt lights, shop no, 3 Beadon Road, Lahore, in connivance with the other associates-in-crime has attempted to evade duty and taxes amounting to Rs4,689,373 by way of mis-declaring the description and quantity of actual goods imported and have violated the provisions of Section 32(1) & (2), 32 (A) 79, 80 and 178 of the Customs Act, 1969, further read with sections 3, 6, 7A, 33 and 34 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 punishable under (14) and (14A) of Section 148 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
He stated that role of the clearing agent M/s Mayo Enterprises, staff of customs and others associates in the commission of offence is being ascertained, efforts are underway to arrest the nominated accused persons and further investigation is in progress.
After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
