KARACHI: The Customs Court issued notices to the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) and special prosecutor on an application for bail filed by suspects namely Muhammad Akram son of Muhammad Ramzan and Raza Muhammad son of Khan Mir, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband betel nuts and others goods.
On August 8, 2018, counsel for the above mentioned suspects filed bail petition and argued that his clients are innocent and were falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to face trail, therefore, court may grant them bail.
According to the prosecution, Investigation Officer Muhammad Humayun submitted interim charge sheet in which he stated that during the checking, officials of the Pakistan Coast Guards intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TK: 806 and during the checking recovered 12,630 kilogram betel nuts and other goods.
He further informed that the above mentioned suspects were asked to produce lawful documents of betel nuts and other goods, who failed to provide any legal documents, therefore, Pakistan Coast Guards officials seized the above mentioned goods and Hino truck and suspects were also arrested.
On last date of hearing, he submitted that prosecution needed further investigations, therefore, court may send them on physical remand. After the hearing, and court sent them Pakistan Coast Guards on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce above mentioned suspects before the court along with progress report on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against above mentioned suspects for violation of under Section 2 (s) and 16, 156 (1) (8) (89) and 157 of the Customs Act, 1969.
