LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling has imposed a penalty on a Korean citizen arrested who was arrested red handed from Allama Iqbal International Airport while making an attempt to smuggle foreign currency from Lahore to Bangkok.
According to details available to Customs Today on Wednesday the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling after confession by the accused Jong Woli, the court imposed a penalty of Rs 500,000.
Earlier the customs Vigilance team detained him from Allama Iqbal International Airport, while he was set to depart from the city and travelling to Bangkok, for carrying an unusual amount of US dollars.
Earlier Customs Preventive also foiled an attempt of currency smuggling at Allama Iqbal International Airport when Jong woli was making attempt of currency smuggling via Thai Airways. Pakistan Customs had registered a case against the accused under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.
Deputy Collector customs Naveed Bhagvi was also present on the spot when customs arrested that person from Lahore airport. It is pertinent to mention here that according to revised rules of the State Bank of Pakistan regarding foreign exchange, a passenger can carry up to $10,000 or equivalent notes of another currency while going abroad.
