KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Abdul Rahim son of Shahdad Khan, Kalim Ullah son of Shah Muhammad against the surety of Rs100,000, who were nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts etc.
On December 08, 2018, counsel for the accused filed bail application and argued that his clients are innocents and falsely implicated in this case, therefore, court may grant their bail till final judgment in this case
Earlier, investigation officer of Customs Preventive submitted that on an actionable information, a team of customs officials intercepted passenger bus (New Shandar Coach) bearing registration no: BSB-808 and recovered 101,000 pouches One-2-One brand, Indian gutka, 291,840 pouches VM-88 gutka made in India worth Rs5,892,600, 2070 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs550,620.
He further informed the court that during the raid, accused were asked to produce lawful documents; however, they failed to provide any lawful documents; therefore, customs officials seized said goods and suspects were also taken into custody.
He argued that investigation is undergone and prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them back to customs department on physical remand. After hearing, the court accepted his plead and sent them back to customs department on physical remand.
