KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has extended the physical remand of accused Muhammad Kashif son of Muhammad Rafiq and sent him back to the custody of the Customs Department for another one week. The accused was booked for attempting to smuggle mobile phones, smart watches etc. The accused had arrived from Dubai by the M/s Flydubai Airlines flight no FZ-331.
During the hearing, investigation officer produced him before the court and informed that the suspect was arrested on March 11, 2017 and 60 I-Phones, 64 Samsung mobile phones, 126 smart wrist watches (SIM operated), 30 empty mobile phones and 20 mobile phones chargers were recovered from his possession.
He further informed the court that the accused failed to produce any lawful documents of the goods, therefore, after fulfilling formalities, the goods were seized and the accused was arrested.
After his arguments, the court sent the accused to the Customs Department and directed the IO to produce him in the court on the next date of hearing along with progress report.
Case was registered against him under section 2 (s) 16 and 139 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & 70 of section 156 (i) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666 (1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 of section 3 (iii) of Import & Export (Control) Act 1950.
