KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of Directorate General of Customs Intelligence & Investigation to complete investigation and submit charge sheet against directors/ partners/ proprietors of M/s New Aijaz Engineering, directors/ partners/ proprietors of M/s Royal Steel and others associates-in-crime, who were nominated in first information report for evaded the duties and taxes in the tune of Rs17,400,133.
On October 26, 2019, investigation officer submitted that on credible information that foreign origin smuggled steel coils are dumped at M. A Chuadhary Goods Transport Company at plot no 6, gate 1, Truck Stand Hawksbay Road, Karachi for its transportation to up-country, on that information, customs teams raided that place and found 240 steel coils lying there suspected to be smuggled/ non-duty paid, in this regard a detention notice was served above mentioned suspects with direction to provide all legal relevant documents in support of legal import lawful possession/ purchase and transportation of detained goods.
He further submitted that record retrieved and statement recorded from the godown in which he disclosed that an attempt was made to hide the actual ownership status of said coils as Anwer Clearing Agent of M/s Trishmir Imports submitted import documents of M/s Royal Steel for the coils belonging to M/s New Aijaz Engineering.
He said that during the investigation it was established that the above mentioned suspects have smuggled foreign origin/ non-duty paid steel coils involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs17, 400,133 hence violating the provision of sections 2 (s) 16 and 178 of Customs Act, 1969, punishable under clauses (8) and (89) ibid.
After the hearing, court taken documents on court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
