KARACHI: The Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi on Saturday recalled a show cause notice issued to investigation officer and directed him to complete investigation and submit report on next date of hearing against accused namely Noman Abdul Rauf son of Abdul Sattar, ex-employee of M/s AMI Pak Ltd, who was booked in 7 cases of mega tax evasion.
During the hearing, investigation officer appeared before the court and tendered unconditionally apology and left himself on the mercy of the court, therefore, court granted him apology and directed him to complete investigation according to law.
It needs to be mentioned here that on last date of hearing, court had issued a show cause notice against him due to insufficient investigation and matter sent to high officials for the customs department for departmental action against the investigation officer.
Earlier, above named accused appeared before the court along with his counsel and moved an application for pre-arrest bail where counsel argued that his client is innocent and falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail, however, he has apprehension of arrest, therefore, and court may grant his bail till final disposal of this case.
After his hearing, court granted his bail and observed in its order that, “Without touching the merits of the case, ad-interim pre-arrest bail is granted to accused to furnish surety in the sum of Rs200,000 each with P.R bond in the like amount to the satisfaction of this court.”
Court also directed accused to join investigation if and when required by the investigation officer and appear before the court on next date of hearing. Court also called the police papers and issued notice to special prosecutor for customs department.
According to the prosecution, cases were registered against accused in violation of section 16, 32 (1), 32 (2), 32A, 79 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 9, 14, 14A, and 46 of section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 read with section 156 (1) of the customs act, 1969 read with Import & Export (Control) Act, 1950.
