KARACHI: Special Judge Customs, Taxation & Anti-Smuggling Ms Sadaf Asif awarded jail term to suspect namely Sadruddin son of Baduddin for period of three month with benefit of section 382-B of Cr.p.c and imposed fine of Rs. 1 million, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband 11,140 Boostin/ Somatotropin injections (foreign origin).
On 20 August 2020, court also observed in its order that “if the fine amount is not paid the accused shall suffer for six months more”.
According to the FIR, on actionable information, stick surveillance was mounted on the passengers coming from Qatar Flight No. QR-610 and during the surveillance, one suspected persons namely Sadr Uddin was traced out at outside International Lounge and during the search of his 3 bags, Boostin Somatotropin were found/ recovered in shape, of straps each containing five injections.
He further submitted that after the formalities, suspect was arrested and goods were seized accordingly and during the investigation, it was established that the above mentioned suspect along with others have tried to smuggled non-customs paid goods into Pakistan.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16 & 139 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (8) (89) & (70) of section 156 (i) ibid read with baggage rules notified vide SRO-666(1)/2006 dated 28/06/2006 & section 3 (iii) of imports & exports (control) act, 1950.
