KARACHI: The Customs Court awarded 24 days jail term and fine of Rs500,000 each to suspect lady namely Farida Bano, Sana Tufail and Muhammad Tufail Junani, who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggle 4,517 grams gold worth Rs31,176,334 etc.
On July 20, 2019, the above mentioned suspects appeared before the court along with their counsel and moved petitions for plead guilty and left themselves on the mercy of the court.
After the hearing, court awarded 24 days imprisonment as undergone period and fine Rs500,000 to each suspect.
According to the prosecution, on actionable information, customs officials intercepted the bove mentioned suspects, who were leaving for Dubai and USA via Dubai by M/s Emirates Airlines and they were asked to declare if they are carrying any contraband goods in their baggage or on their persons.
Investigation officer submitted that on their negative reply they were taken to search room along with lady preventive officer for carrying out personal search of lady passengers, accordingly lady passenger namely Farida Bano was taken to search room which resulted in the recovery of 16 heavier lady bangles said to be gold worn by her in both arms.
He said that after this development the personal search of passenger namely Muhammad Tufail Junani was conducted by the undersigned in presence of musheers which yielded the recovery of 2 heavier man’s bangles (kara) said to be gold coated with silver cover worn by him in right arm and right ankle.
