KARACHI: The Customs & Taxation Court awarded 26 days imprisonment and fine of Rs3,00,000 to suspect namely Hadayat Ullah son of Sikandar Khan, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband goods into Pakistan. “If the fine amount is not paid the accused shall suffer simple imprisonment for six months more”. Court mentioned in its order.
On 27 October 2020, the above-mentioned suspect was produced by officials of the Central Jail and his counsel moved an application to plead guilty and left himself on the mercy of the court. After the hearing, the court framed charges against him and awarded 26 days imprisonment and fine of Rs3,00,000 to him.
After announcement of the judgment, court wrote letter to superintendent Central Jail Karachi and directed him to “this is authorize and require you, the said superintendent to receive the said accused into your custody in the said jail, together with this warrant and he carry the aforesaid sentence into execution according to law, the conviction is awarded “C” class”.
It needs to be mentioned here that the suspect was in Central Jail Karachi since Oct 2, 2020.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against him for violation of section 2 (s) read with sections 156 (2), 157 (2) and 178 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of the section 156 (1) ibid read with section 3 (1) of the import and export control act, 1969.
