KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Ihsanullah son of Jan Muhammad and Feroz Shah son of Walayat Shah to customs department on physical remand in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign origin tyres and other contraband goods.
On 27 November 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted Daewoo trailer bearing registration no C-2872 & C-3229 en-route Chaman-Karachi loaded with container no TEMU-6157522 and WHSU-5529164.
He submits that during the search, customs officials found 33 new tyres Sumfull brand made in China and 33 new tyres Green Dragon brand and other goods and asked them to provide legal documents of above-mentioned goods, however, they failed to produce any lawful document, therefore, both suspects were taken into custody and goods also were seized.
He submits that prosecution needs further investigation for arrest of financiers, abettors and others including owner of the truck and goods during the investigation, therefore, court may grant their physical remand.
After the hearing, court sent them back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report. According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
