KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Umair Muhboob Hussain, Muhammad Anus and Muhammad Asghar, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid mobiles phones etc, to Customs Preventive on physical remand.
On November 03, 2018, investigation officer produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on the raiding night of October 29/30, 2018, while the officer was performing his duties at the Customs Examination Hal, International Arrivals, JIAP Karachi, the above-mentioned three suspects holding Pakistani passport arrived through Emirates Airlines were intercepted at red channel and brought to the customs examination counters where they were asked to handover their traveling documents, passports and air tickets.
He further submitted that during the search of their baggage, customs officials found 204 Motorola mobile phones, 350 packets Atrovent 500mcg/2cl Unit Dose Vials (an allopathic medicine), 140 tubes Century’s brand Metal Marker Ink (an Indian manufactured article), 20 carbom brush set, 200 mobile batteries and others goods worth Rs3,000,000.
Investigation officer further submitted that during the search, they were asked to provide lawful documents of the smuggled goods; however, they failed to produce the documents; therefore, they were arrested and goods were also taken into custody.
He stated that prosecution needs further investigations from them; therefore, court may send them back to customs department. After the hearing, court sent them back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
