KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects Ismail son of Fateh Gul, Allah Bukhsh son of Ahmed Bukhsh and Nazir Ahmed son of Ali Muhammad to jail on judicial remand, who were alleged involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 60,000 liters High Speed Diesel.
On April 03, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced the above-mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on a credible information, customs officials intercepted one Hino truck bearing registration no: JV-0881 and recovered 3400 liters diesel oil from 17 drums each containing 200 liters at place of dumping and 2600 liters diesel oil from 04 small tanks lying at the place of storage, having total value of Rs540,000.
He further informed the court that during raid, customs officials asked suspects to produce documents of goods, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, customs team seized goods along with vehicle and suspects also were taken into custody.
He argued that prosecution needs further investigation from them for arrest of other culprits therefore, court may send them on physical remand. After the hearing, court sent suspects to jail and directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of Section 2(s) 16, 157 of the Customs Act, read with Section 3(1) of Imports and Exports Control Act, 1950 further read with SRO 499(1)/2009 dated 06.06.2009 and SRO 566(1)/2005 dated 06.06.2005 punishable under Clauses (8) & (89) of Section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 and Section 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969.
