Customs court approves remand of suspects booked in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspects namely Naqeebullah son of Ubaidullah and Muhammad Shahid son of Dost Muhammad and sent them back to customs lock-up, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid high speed diesel.

On 13 February 2020, investigation officer of customs preventive produced them before the court and informed that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number SEB-780 (Lesbela) and during the search, recovered 35000 liters high speed diesel from hidden tank fabricated in the floor and on both sides of the said truck.

He further informed the court that both the occupants drivers were asked to explain the reasons for the concealment of diesel oil and they were asked to provide lawful documents, however, they failed to provide any lawful documents, therefore, they are taken into customs custody and goods along with vehicles were seized.

He said that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them back to customs department, after the hearing, court approved their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution case was registered against them for violation under section 2(s) 32, 121, 128 & 178 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8, 14, 63, 64, 89, 90 of section 156(i) ibid and other related laws.
