KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspects namely Hussain Khan son of Moosa Khan and Bacha Rehman son of Muhammad Jaleel to customs preventive on physical remand, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 9,000 liters High Speed Diesel.
On March 30, 2019, investigation officer of customs preventive produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted Hino water tanker bearing registration no JQ-0628 and recovered 9,000 liters High Speed Diesel (HSD) worth Rs810,000
He further informed that during raid, customs officials asked the suspects to produce documents of goods, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, customs team seized goods along with vehicle and suspects also were taken into custody.
He argued that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may sent them to physical remand, after the hearing, court approved his request and directed him to produce above-named suspects on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of Section 2(s) 16, 157 of the Customs Act, read with section 3(1) of Imports and Exports Control Act, 1950 further read with SRO 499(1)/2009 dated 06.06.2009 and SRO 566(1)/2005 dated 06.06.2005 punishable under Clauses (8) & (89) of Section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 and Section 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969.
