KARACHI: Customs Court sent suspects namely Fazal Bacha son of Shah Muhammad and Muhammad Javed son of Bacha Khan to customs department on physical remand who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggling 10090 liter high speed diesel.
On 22 November 22 2019, investigation officer of ASO produced the above mentioned suspects before the court and informed that on an actionable information, officials of the customs department intercepted a Hino water tanker bearing registration number TTB-669 arrived from Hub, Baluchistan.
He argued that driver was asked about the contents of the tanker to which occupant driver responded that he is carrying water in the tanker and of further query stated that he is no concealment in the tank, cursory search of the aforesaid water tanker was carried out, apparently it was seemed water tanker containing on chamber filed with water. However, on minute checking, it was observed that there were hidden tanks fabricated inside the tanker under the water.
He further informed the court that during the search, customs officials found high speed diesel which were smuggling from Baluchistan to Karachi in open market, he submits that prosecution needs to further investigation and therefore, court may send them back to customs department for further investigation.
After the hearing, court sent them back to customs department on physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
