KARACHI: The Customs court sent suspect namely Abdul Rahim son of Shahdad Khan, Kalim Ullah son of Shah Muhammad, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts etc, to customs department on physical remand.
On December 01, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive produced the suspects along with First Information Report (FIR) and submitted that on an actionable information, a team of customs officials intercepted passenger bus (New Shandar Coach) bearing registration no: BSB-808 and recovered 101,000 pouches One-2-One brand, Indian gutka, 291,840 pouches VM-88 gutka worth Rs5,892,600 and 2,070 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs550,620.
He further informed the court that during the raid, accused were asked to produce lawful documents; which he failed to produce. Therefore, customs officials seized the said goods and suspects were also taken into custody.
He argued that investigations are undergoing and prosecution needs further investigations from them; therefore, the court may send them back to customs department on physical remand.
After hearing, the court accepted his plead and sent them back to customs department on physical remand.
