KARACHI: The Customs Court granted pre-arrest bail to suspect namely Muhammad Ali Gaba, who was booked and absconder in a case of attempting to smuggle huge foreign mobile phones. On 16 November 2019, the above mentioned suspect appeared before the court along with his counsel and moved petition for pre-arrest, after the arguments, court granted his bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed him to join investigation if and when required by investigation officer of this case, court also called police paper and issued notices to customs department and special prosecutor of customs. Court also directed him to appear before the on next date of hearing or otherwise. According to the prosecution, suspects namely Saad son of Abdul Samad and Abdullah Khan son of Iqbal Ahmed Khan were coming from Dubai through Emirates Airline and on an actionable information, customs officials approached them and intercepted. Investigation officer submits that during the search of their luggage customs team found 08 Apple I-Phone model XI. 06 Samsung Galaxy Note 8, 2 Mi 9 Mobile phones, 1 Apple I-Phone 7 Plus, Laptop Intel Inside Nvidia, Sr. No J9NRCV02D77639F total valuing of Rs1,860,000. He argued that after the search, they were asked to produce lawful documents of the above mentioned suspects, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, they were arrested and goods were seized by the customs authority. According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
