KARACHI: The Customs Court sent suspect namely Sami Ullah son of Akram Khan to customs lock-up on physical remand, who was arrested and booked in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign origin cigarette and others contraband goods.
On October 18, 2019, investigation officer produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted one unit car Toyota Corolla bearing registration number ARU-875 and during the search found 10 cartons containing 50 dandas foreign origin cigarette brand Dunhill signature Blend Tobacco of London Limited, total 500 numbers of dandas valuing of Rs750,000. 1 carton containing 50 numbers of dandas of foreign origin cigarette brand Benson & Hedges special Filter British American Tobacco Group valuing of Rs75,000.
He stated that prosecution needs further investigation from arrested accused, therefor, court may grant his physical remand, after the hearing, court granted his physical remand and sent back to customs lock-up. Court also directed investigation officer to produce above mentioned suspect before the court along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
