KARACHI: The Customs Court approved physical remand of suspect namely Muhammad Hussain son of Kabir Ahmed and sent him back to customs lock-up, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle one gold bullion (10 tola, 24 k) bearing marks ARY SR No. 116518 worth Rs710,000.
On May 22, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport produced the above-mentioned suspect before the court and informed that he was engaged in clearance of baggage of outgoing passengers of various flights bound for different international destinations, meanwhile Airport Security Officials including Adeel Bhutti, AD/In-charge Sector Commander came and handed over one gold bullion along with an outgoing passenger Muhammad Hussain leaving for Bangkok by Thai Airline.
He further informed the court that during the investigation, suspect was asked to produce lawful documents of said gold, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, gold was seized and he was also taken into customs custody. He pleaded that prosecution needs further investigation from him, therefore, he may send back to customs department.
After the hearing, court sent him back to customs department and directed customs officials to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (8) of Section 156 (i) ibid.
