LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation & Anti-Smuggling on Thursday handed over accused Majid Ali to customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) team for interrogation in a case of smuggling of huge quantity of air conditioners.
According to details accused was produced before the court by customs team where they asked for his physical remand of five days but Judge Khaqan Babar approved his three days physical remand.
Earlier on Tuesday a team of the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid air conditioners from a warehouse in area of Daroghawala Lahore.
Sources told that Director Customs I&I received information that a warehouse located in Daroghawala is full of smuggled air conditioners which is owned by a company namely M/s Tanveer and sons.
After receiving the information customs team raided at the warehouse and found 1351 non customs paid air conditioners. Sources told that worth of the recovered air conditioners is more than Rs130 million in local market. The accused has caused huge loss to the national kitty in the wake of duty and taxes.
Sources told that the team asked the owner of the company to show legal documents regarding import and transportation of the items but they remained failed to show any legal documents. Customs has arrested the accused Majid Ali.
Sources told that it was revealed during initial investigations that seized ACs were cleared through mis-declaration. Customs Intelligence and Investigation team impounded all goods and after registering a case against accused person started further investigations.
